For remote teams, communication is one of the most important skills to keep things flowing smoothly. Within teams, and across departments.
As we continue to grow, communication becomes more difficult. When everyone knows everyone it's easy, but as we're adding more people, from different cultures, who work in different departments ➝ we need to be more conscious about how we communicate.
Our primary communication channels are Slack and Asana (+Loom), and a lot of context gets lost in text, please consider the below challenges and best practices to make communication more fun, friendly and effective for everyone!
❗Communication Challenges
- Lack of context: It's easy to misunderstand context and emotion when writing. Use emojis, formatting, write as you would talk and use loom videos (5 min max) every time you can.
- Cultural diversity: People are different and communicate differently in different countries. Try to be aware of your style, and make sure you speak in a way that works for everyone.
- Departmental communication styles: Departments may communicate differently. Be extra aware of your communication when communicating across departments.
